If you are not sure where you want your career path to take you next, temping is a great way to keep the money coming in while you make your decision, it will also help you decide what you want.
Temping will give you more experience of larger companies than you could ever get by applying permanently. You could be in one of the top four accountancy firms one week and in one of the top five law firms the next. Temping is a great foot in the door, if you can impress they will remember you.
If you don’t like the insecurity of temping on a week by week basis there are also longer term temporary assignments, from 3 and 6 month contracts, they can even go on for years. With temping there is something to suit everyone.
If you decide short term temping is the way for you it gives you the flexibility to decide how many hours you want to work, you may decide to work one week on the next week off, if you explain this to your agency from the beginning it can be an excellent arrangement for you both.
You will work on the agency payroll and be paid weekly (no more waiting until the end of the month!) and because the agency are experts in tax and pay related issues we can help you with any tax or pay queries you may have.
If you feel that temping would be isolating for you, feel as though you wouldn’t be a part of any team, this is not the case. If you are working through a reputable agency you will always have a temporary controller at the end of the line, you will build a relationship with the agency and always feel you can drop in unannounced. Most companies are well experienced with temporary staff members and treat you as one of the team.
If you have just arrived in Ireland, temping is a great way to meet different people, it also helps you get your bearings and find your way around. The colleagues you are temping with now will be the friends you are emailing on your next set of travels.
