Description:

Osborne are proud to be working with a valued client to recruit for a Director or Nursing for their new nursing home in the North Dublin region

The primary role will be one of professional and business leadership in the day to day operations of the Nursing Home.

The key objective is to effectively manage the successful operation of the Nursing Home, ensuring high quality care standards are maintained and that business objectives are met.

The successful candidate will need to have nursing home management experience within elderly and dementia care at CNM level.

In order to achieve this, the DON will be required to fulfil, in line with documented policies and procedures, line manager responsibilities on a day to day basis in the following areas:

  • Governance and Management
  • Clinical care
  • Social care
  • Transitions, Transfers and occupancy management
  • Family support
  • HR management
  • Financial and administration management
  • Facility management
  • To delegate responsibilities to the most knowledgeable person on the roster in their absence.

The Director of Nursing will be responsible for achieving the following key outcomes:

  • To ensure the Nursing Home meets with all statutory and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure the Nursing Home is prepared for Inspections (HIQA and internal, WRC, EHO and Fire Officer.)
  • To manage all facets of the service to ensure a high standard of resident care at all times
  • To provide support, advice and guidance to the home by way of an on-call arrangement
  • Plan and manage on call rota with Deputy Home Managers and CNM’s
  • To manage and support all heads of department including nursing, maintenance and catering staff
  • Educate and support staff to ensure compliance with policies and procedures on a 24-hour basis. This will include some ad hoc monitoring visits
  • Liaise with and communicate with MDT practitioners ensuring person centred services to the residents in our care
  • Communicate openly with all staff, residents, families, other health professionals and visitors in a courteous and professional manner reflecting positively on the home.
  • Attend internal company meetings and represent the company externally at meetings when and if required
  • Ensure all relevant information is deiminated to the appropriate staff
  • Working with the CFO to ensure keeping in line with all cost controls across all departments
  • Ensure purchase order reconciliations are submitted in line with company policy
  • Ensure occupancy targets are met or exceeded
  • Strategically consider issues of HR across all departments within the Nursing Home
  • Ensure staff rosters are maintained and an adequate staff skill mix is maintained at all times
  • Manage all staff disciplinary and grievance procedures seeking advice and input from HR and the OM where appropriate and required
  • Ensure staff compliance with company Policies and Procedures
  • Actively promote Nursing Home open days
  • Present a positive image of the Nursing Home to the community
  • Network with other agencies in the community, healthcare professionals and agencies to ensure a positive image of the Nursing home with other stakeholders
  • Actively participate in all company marketing events
  • Actively promote Nursing Home open days

Requirements Qualifications

  • A registered General Nurse on the Register of Nurses held by Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
  • A post registration management qualification in health or a related field.
  • not less than 3 years’ experience of nursing older persons within the previous 6 years.
  • not less than 3 years’ experience in a management capacity in the health and social care area, and a post registration management qualification in health or a related field.

Desirable but not essential

  • Post Graduate diploma in Gerontology
  • Post registration qualification in nursing people with dementia.
  • Management qualifications
  • Gerontology experience
  • IT skills

Experience Essential:

  • Minimum three years post graduate experience with a minimum of two years’ experience in Care of the Older Person within the previous 6 years.
  • Have not less than 3 years’ experience in a management capacity in the health and social area.
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of the ageing process would be desirable
